Judge to decide on Zimmerman’s fate

A Florida judge is to decide today whether to release murder suspect George Zimmerman on bail, pending his trial over the death of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin.

Zimmerman has been charged with second degree murder for killing the 17-year-old.

His lawyer surrendered Zimmerman’s passport and said he should be granted bail because of a previous record of good conduct.

Zimmerman shot and killed Trayvon Martin while patrolling a gated Florida community on February 26.

However, he said acted in self-defence after an altercation broke out between the pair.

The hearing comes as a new photograph emerged reported to show blood on the back of Zimmerman's head on the night Trayvon Martin died.
