The Washington-based Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery Consultative Group says it has invited Haiti to become a developing country member delegate.
The move would make the earthquake-ravaged, French-speaking Caribbean country the first nation to be invited into membership for a second term.
Haiti's Chief of Staff and Minister of the Interior, Thierry Mayard-Paul, said the invitation underscores the importance of the Martelly administration's work in Disaster Reduction and Recovery Management throughout the country.
Mayard-Paul said disaster risk reduction and management are intrinsically embedded within the cornerstone program for the Haitian government's National Decentralization Agenda.
