Sarkozy to sue over Gaddafi claim

French President Nicolas Sarkozy is to file a complaint against a website that claimed Libya's Colonel Muammar Gaddafi had offered to fund his 2007 election campaign.

Sarkozy is to face Socialist Francois Hollande in the second round of the presidential election in six days.

The Mediapart site has published a 2006 document signed by former head of Libyan intelligence Moussa Koussa proposing up to 50 million euros in funding.

However, Sarkozy has called it a crude forgery while Koussa has said the signature was fake.

Speaking on French TV, Sarkozy linked the publication of the document to Sunday's election run-off with Hollande and promised to file a complaint by the end of the campaign.
