Bahamians have begun voting for a new government under what is called the “Advance Poll” system.

Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham says the Advanced Poll previously applied only to uniformed officers and Election Day workers.

However, he said for this year, private citizens who are unable to vote on Election Day, Monday, May 7 are being allowed to vote on the Advanced Poll.

Ingraham said people taking the opportunity to vote in the Advance Poll include persons scheduled for medical care next week and students studying abroad and people who work for The Bahamas government abroad.

In a nationwide address last night, the Prime Minister also expressed his appreciation for the progress the country has been making through fair, open and transparent elections.
