Cooking gas shortage likely in St. Lucia
St. Lucians are bracing for a shortage of cooking gas as the country is facing problems in securing supplies from its main source, Trinidad and Tobago.
The commerce and consumer affairs ministry announced on the weekend that domestic supplies would drop by more than a third through to the end of the month.
According to the ministry, one of the major importers of Liquefied Petroleum Gas is encountering difficulty obtaining Trinidadian supplies.
However, Commerce Minister Emma Hippolyte has sought to assure that there is adequate supply of cooking gas in the county.
She said the ministry is working with the two major suppliers to ensure that the consumers are not unduly affected.
Trinidad and Tobago is the Caribbean’s leading supplier of cooking gas.
