Haitian women to benefit from World Bank programme

The World Bank has launched the Adolescent Girls Initiative in Haiti, which is aimed at fostering economic independence among 12,000 young women in eight countries.



The World Bank said 1000 girls, between the ages of 17 and 20, will receive non-traditional vocational training.



The Washington-based financial institution said the young girls will be trained in areas such as work ethics, self-confidence and professional conduct.



They will also receive a stipend to cover transportation and other costs and will be offered internship at the end of the programme.
