Two victories for Jamaica

Olympic champions Shelly-Ann Fraser and Melaine Walker recorded victories for Jamaica on yesterday’s final day of the World Athletics Final in Stuttgart, Germany.



Fraser won the women’s 100 metres in 10.94 seconds ahead of her Jamaican teammate Kerron Stewart. Fraser and Stewart beat four Americans.



Stewart nipped Marshevet Hooker for second place, with both clocking 11.06. Carmelita Jeter was fourth in 11.21, Torri Edwards fifth in 11.22 and Lauryn Williams sixth, also in 11.22.



Walker easily won the women’s 400-metre hurdles in 54.06. Anastasiya Rabchenyuk of Ukraine, 54.92 finished second, while Tiffany Williams of the USA was third in 55.16.



In the women’s 400 metres Jamaican Novlene Williams, 51.30 was third, while her teammates Shericka Williams, 51.55 finished fifth and Shereefa Lloyd was eighth in 51.86.



American Sanya Richards won the event in 50.41 ahead of Olympic champion Christine Ohuruogu of Britain who clocked 50.83.



Jamaican Kenia Sinclair clocked one minute 58.82 for fourth place in the women’s 800 metres.



Kenyan teenager Pamela Jelimo won the event in one-minute 56.23 seconds, a championship record, to collect the Golden League jackpot of US$1 million.



In men’s action, Jamaican Chris Williams, 20.66, finished fourth in the 200 metres, won by Stephane Buckland, of Mauritius, in 20.57 seconds.
