At least nine people were killed and dozens more injured after a car bomb exploded in eastern Syria today.

State television reports that the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber in the city of Deir al-Zour.

The blast, which reportedly took place near military intelligence offices, is the latest in a series of blasts near Syrian security agency buildings.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack and a Syrian foreign ministry spokesman said that the bomb contained 500 kilogram of explosives.
