Kofi Annan: Syria has reached a tipping point

United Nations Arab League envoy to Syria, Kofi Annan says the country has reached a tipping point after more than a year of conflict.



The comments came after Annan held talks with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad yesterday.



He said the six-point international peace plan for Syria is not being implemented as it should be and adds that he has appealed to al-Assad to take steps to create a momentum for its implementation.



However, President al-Assad says the success of Annan's peace plan depends on the halting of what he calls terrorist actions and arms-smuggling.



Meanwhile, several Western states including the United States, France, the United Kingdom and Germany have announced that they are expelling Syrian diplomats following Friday’s massacre in the Houla region.



Reports say as much as 108 people were killed in the attacks.
