Mistrial declared in John Edwards case

The judge in the campaign finance trial of former United States presidential candidate John Edwards has declared a mistrial, after the jury remained deadlocked on most of the charges.

The jury in Greensboro, North Carolina, found Edwards not guilty on one of six charges of misusing campaign funds, but could not agree on the other five.

It is not clear if prosecutors will retry Edwards on the other counts.

The former Democratic presidential candidate has denied using donor funds to hide his mistress' pregnancy during his 2008 run for the presidency because his then wife battled breast cancer.

Speaking after the mistrial was declared, Edwards admitted that he had done a lot of things that were wrong, but maintained that he had not done anything illegal.
