The government in Haiti says the country, which is recovering from a devastating earthquake in 2010, is now better prepared to deal with the 2012 hurricane season.

According to Interior Minister, Thierry Maynard Paul the national system of disaster and risk management for the 2012 hurricane season is more enhanced compared to previous years.

He said the five areas that have been improved are communication, information, coordination, operation and training and awareness.

The minister also said that 38 early warning systems are functional on many rivers in the country.

He said 18 meteorological sensors have also been installed in 31 villages that have a high risk of flooding and plans for evacuation have also been developed.
