Jamaica end Paralympic Games on disappointing note
Jamaica’s campaign at the 13th Paralympic Games in Beijing, China, came to a disappointing end yesterday when medal hopeful Sylvia Grant failed to make the final of the women’s discus.
Grant, Class F57 competitor, was among 14 finalists, nine of whom were class F58.
She threw a disappointing 19.69 metre, well below her personal best of 25 metres, which gained 747 points and earned her 12th place.
Nijdeka Iyiazi of Nigeria won the gold medal in a new meet record of 32.21metres with 1,120 points.
Bulgaria’s Stela Eneva took silver with a throw of 34.58 metres and Nadia Madjemedj of Algeria copped the bronze with a throw of 28.74 metres, a paralympic record for Class F57.
Jamaica ended the championships with one bronze medal, which was won by Tanto Campbell.
The Jamaicans are expected to return to the island on Saturday.
