Former world record holder Asafa Powell yesterday failed to challenge Usain Bolt’s world record, winning the 100-metres at Pedro Cup in Poland in 9.89 seconds.
Powell dominated the field but fell well short of his fellow Jamaican’s 9.69 mark set at the Beijing Olympics.
American Mike Rodgers finished second in 10.23, while Andrew Hinds of Barbados was third with a time of 10.41.
A year ago, Powell set a world record of 9.74 seconds at the Rieti Grand Prix in Italy. He has since been eclipsed by Bolt, who stormed onto the world scene earlier this year.
