The Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Hubert Ingraham, has ordered the national power company to reconnect electrical power to 5,000 houses whose service was cut because of unpaid bills.

According to Mr. Ingraham the vast majority of households owed less than $1,000.

He has further urged delinquent clients to make arrangements with the Bahamas Electricity Corporation to pay off outstanding bills.
