The country’s top-flight football competition, the National Premier League, received a whopping $150 million boost this morning from new sponsors Digicel.

The money will be spread over three years and the competition will be known as the Digicel Premier League.

Plans for the league were unveiled at a Press Conference at the offices of the Jamaica Football Federation in New Kingston.

Chairman of the Premier League Clubs Association of Jamaica Edward Seaga said the league will also benefit from another sponsor, a bank is expected to come on board soon.

The Digicel sponsorship came just in time for the first round of matches, which kicks off this Sunday.

In addition to the $150 million, Digicel’s sponsorship also includes awards for Player of the Year, Most Improved Player and Best Goalkeeper of the Season.

The league will also be broadcast live each week on television.
