Illegal immigrants detained in Antigua

A joint police and military operation in Antigua earlier this week has resulted in more than 100 suspected illegal immigrants being taken into custody for questioning.

Immigration officials say the authorities would be checking documents to ascertain if those detained are legal.

The official says immigrants whose papers are not updated would be charged with an offence and then deported.

Those who are found to be legal will be released.

However, since Tuesday there has been no official word from the government or the Police on the issue.
