The murder toll in Trinidad and Tobago has risen to 397.

According to police statistics, this is two more than the 395 people killed last year.

The murder figure continues to cause concern with citizens calling for the administration to implement tough measures to curb the crime problem.

The Government recently responded by enacting stiff legislation that would prevent an accused from getting bail in certain circumstances.

However, the Opposition, United National Congress, has criticised the move branding it as a trespass on the rights of the Trinidadian people.
