A 19-year-old has been charged with the murder of a 17-year-old schoolgirl in St. Lucia.

The police say the partially decomposing body of Crystal St. Omer was found three days after she went to her school to collect her CXC results.

They say the accused, who is the son of a well known businessman, has two previous convictions for a theft of a vehicle and possession of an illegal firearm.

Meanwhile, a post mortem revealed that the former student of the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School had been strangled.
