Former Antigua Prime Minister Lester Bird is urging Government to intervene in the dispute between the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and mobile giants Digicel.

Bird, the political leader of the Antigua Labour Party, said next month’s cash-rich Stanford Super Series tournament presented a golden opportunity to bring hundreds of tourists to Antigua, while at the same time showcasing the country’s attractions to millions all over the world.

The impasse now threatened the game which depending on a court decision next month, may be called off.

Bird called on the disputing sides to reconsider their positions in order to allow the games and the televised broadcast to go out to the world as scheduled.

The Stanford Super Series is scheduled to run from October 25 to November 1 but has been placed in doubt following Digicel’s injunction in the London High Court.
