Dominican heads PAHO

Dominican Dr. Carissa Etienne has been elected as Director of the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO).
She is now the second Caribbean national to be elected to the post.
Dr. Etienne was electedduring the 28th Pan American Sanitary Conference in Washington.
She will begin her five-year term on February 1, next year.
She replaces Dr. Mirta Roses Periago of Argentina, who has held the post since 2003.
