Security experts from around the world are to meet in Antigua today for a two-day meeting with United Nations disarmament officials and civil society representatives.

They are expected to discuss the relationship between sustainable development and the arms trade.

CARICOM member states have supported the call for a robust treaty to help stop the flood of uncontrolled small arms to the region.

CARICOM has demonstrated strong leadership in its efforts to get an Arms Trade Treaty agreed to at the United Nations, with six member states co-sponsoring a resolution, which received the full support of the regional grouping.

The UN General Assembly will decide the next step for the treaty in October.
