Hurricane Miriam churns in Pacific off Mexico

(AP) — US forecasters say Miriam is currently a Category two hurricane churning well off Mexico's Baja California peninsula.



Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Miriam is packing top sustained winds near 105 mph or 165 kph.



At 5 a.m, the hurricane was centered about 405 miles or 655 kms southwest of the southern tip of the Baja peninsula.



The center says Miriam was moving northwest at 6 mph or 9 kph. No coastal watches or warnings are in effect, but ocean swells will impact Baja's southern and western shore over the coming days.



In the open Atlantic, Tropical Storm Nadine was meandering far from land with top sustained winds of about 45 mph or 75 kph.
