A police officer in the eastern Indian state of Orissa has been suspended and four persons arrested in connection with the rape of a Catholic nun.
The 29 year old nun reported that she was raped on August 25 by a member of a Hindu mob in Kandhamal district.
Medical officials said the incident was reported to the police but they were slow in responding.
According to BBC reports, the police finally began investigations yesterday, 38 days after the rape.
When confronted about the pace of police response, the police officer in charge of the area Narayan Rao reportedly said maintaining law and order was his first priority.
Officials said Mr. Rao was suspended following his comments.
The four suspects have not been charged.
