Barbadian jockey Quincy Welch captured the 2008 Northlands Park jockeys’ championship title in Canada yesterday when he won three races during the season-ending card.
Welch ended the year with 82 wins to complete his sixth championship win at Northlands Park and with seven Stampede Park crowns in Calgary his 13th jockeys’ title success in Alberta horse racing.
Canadian Stephan Heiler finished second with 75 wins and Barbadian Rickey Walcott, the defending champion, placed third with 66 wins.
Heiler had entered the weekend schedule Saturday and Sunday, threatening Welch after he had won twice on Friday.
