The President of El Salvador, Elias Antonio Saca, said his country is considering becoming a member of the Caribbean Community.

Mr. Saca believes the move would boost the growth of El Salvador’s economy.

He said he wants the country to become the most competitive economy in Central America and the fifth in Latin America.

El Salvador\'s main exports include coffee, sugar, shrimp, textiles, chemicals, and electricity.

Mr. Saca said the country has no interest in joining Venezuela\'s Petrocaribe cheap oil deal, which includes several Caribbean and Latin American nations.

He said El Salvador\'s government did not need Petrocaribe, but that private businesses such as refinery owners and gasoline importers are free to negotiate deals with Venezuela.
