Marine General to oversee US operations in Caribbean

A Marine Corps General has taken charge of the United States military command that oversees mission to Latin American and the Caribbean.
Sixty-two year-old John F. Kelly, is now at the helm of the military command, known as Southcom.
The Southcom is a campus-style office complex where military planners, intelligence analysts and agents of other US federal agencies oversee and coordinate US military activities in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Kelly has commanded troops in Iraq and most recently served as Secretary of Defence Leon Panetta’s senior military advisor.
