T&T environmentalist ends hunger strike
Environmentalist Dr. Wayne Kublalsingh has ended a 21-day hunger strike in protest over the decision of the Trinidad and Tobago Government to construct a multi-billion dollar highway.
He agreed to call off his daily protest outside the office of Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar last night, after holding talks with officials from the Joint Consultative Council.
The JCC and its partners had agreed to a review of the highway project and send a proposal to the prime minister.
It’s reported that the government has agreed to undertake the review.
Dr. Kublalsingh has maintained that the building of the highway will cause widespread damage to the environment and disrupt the lives of hundreds of people.
