Former WI bowler gets Courtney Walsh Award

Former Jamaica and West Indies off spin bowler Nehemiah Perry last night walked away with the Courtney Walsh Award for Excellence at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.



The 40 year old Perry, who played four Tests and 21 One Day Internationals for the West Indies was presented with a specially designed crystal trophy.



He also received a cheque worth $500,000 from the organisers, Culture, Health, Arts, Sports and Education Fund.



Perry got the nod over basketballer Oberon Pitterson; track and field star Brigitte Foster Hylton, swimmer Jhanell Atkinson Wignal and footballer Ricardo Gardner.



Perry became the second cricketer to win the prestigious award following former West Indies captain Jimmy Adams, who was the inaugural recipient in 2005.



Other winners were hurdler Deon Hemmings McCatty in 2006 and netballer Elaine Davis last year.
