Reggae Boyz/Honduras face off
Having beaten CONCACAF giants Mexico on Saturday, Jamaica must now put away Honduras in a do-or-die World Cup qualifier this evening at the National Stadium beginning at 7 p.m.
With only the top two qualifying from the quadrangular group to CONCACAF’s six-nation final round play-off, Jamaica lying third on four points with two matches to go must win to remain in the hunt.
Honduras and Mexico are at the top of the group with nine points each, while Canada are in last place with a point.
This will be the second match between the teams in the qualifier following Honduras 2-0 victory in San Pedro Sula on September 10.
This time around the Jamaican squad has been strengthened and is now taking orders from interim coach Theodore Whitmore, a former Reggae Boy.
Ten of Jamaica’s top players, who ply their trade in European and American leagues, have been added to the squad.
Honduras can clinch a spot in the final round with a draw today, while Mexico will try for a second time to earn its berth in the next round when they travel to Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton to face already eliminated Canada.
