In Group ‘A’ of the CONCACAF qualifiers, Dwight Yorke converted a 79th-minute penalty to give Trinidad and Tobago a 2-1 victory over the United States, moving the country to the brink of the final round.

It was the Soca Warriors’ first victory over the USA in 12 tries in World Cup qualifying, and ended the Americans six-game winning streak.

The USA already had clinched their place in the six-team CONCACAF final round, but the result moved Trinidad and Tobago into second place with eight points, three better than Guatemala, which were beaten 2-1 by Cuba in the night’s other game.

Trinidad and Tobago will next be at home against Cuba on November 19, while Guatemala will have to travel to face the USA.
