St Vincent teachers strike continues

Teachers in St. Vincent and the Grenadines have entered their second week of strike action.

The teachers, who have been away from the classrooms since last week, are protesting a government salary regrading programme, which is to take effect later this year.

The St Vincent Teachers Union has reportedly requested a 10 percent wage increase but the government said it could not afford more than seven percent.

The latest meeting between the two parties yesterday failed to resolve the dispute.

Union president Joy Mathews said they would continue their protest until a compromise is reached.
