Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves has appealed to teachers on the island to return to the classrooms.

The teachers have been on strike since last week, in protests over a government reclassification exercise.

The St. Vincent Teachers’ Union had earlier indicated that industrial action would continue until an agreement is reached with the government.

Dr. Gonsalves is warning the union that the current strike could hurt the union.

However, the opposition leader Arnhim Eustace has said the teachers\' action is legitimate.
