Pope Benedict XVI steps down today

Pope Benedict XVI today appeared in front of thousands of pilgrims in St Peter's Square on his final day as the pontiff.
The Pope is retiring at the age of 85.
In his final address to Catholics, the pope said he faced choppy waters during his eight years in the post.
The pope’s successor will be chosen in March.
