Jamaican retirees nominated for Caribbean sports awards
13 retired Jamaican athletes have been nominated among a list of 35 regional athletes for the inaugural Caribbean Awards Sports Icon that will be held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on Friday, November 7.
The event, which is the brainchild of Jamaican-born, London-based Al Hamilton, will honour outstanding sports stars from the region.
Five leading regional sports will be highlighted, track and field, male and female, boxing, cricket, football and netball.
Top regional administrators will also be honoured. Three Jamaican administrators in Molly Rhone, Mike Fennel and Neville ‘Teddy’ McCook are among the five nominees for this award.
Among the Jamaicans nominated for the Caribbean Awards Sports Icon are Deon Hemmings, Merlene Ottey, Don Quarrie and Bertland Cameron for track and field, Theodore Whitmore, Lindy Delapenha and Robbie Earle for football and Mike McCallum for boxing.
The nominees also include Michael Holding and Courtney Walsh for cricket, Janet Johnson and Patricia McDonald for netball.
