Grenada has received an automated fingerprinting identification system from the United States to assist in crime solving in the region.

US Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Larry Palmer says the system will enhance border security for the individual islands.

He says it will also make the searching of data base with fingerprints much easier and faster.

Palmer said that digitisation of the Caribbean countries’ paper fingerprint cards will bring them up to international law enforcement standard and improve cooperation among law enforcement entities.

The equipment is funded under the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative and through Diplomatic Security Anti-Terrorism Assistance.

In total 13 Caribbean countries will be provided with the equipment valued at US$250,000.
