The Guyana police have detained a man in connection with a visa scam being run by people posing as United States (US) embassy officials.

The police say the man was arrested at Triumph, East Coast Demerara.

He was found with travel documents and monies collected from a victim of the scam.

According to the police, people posing as employees of the US Embassy were approaching unsuspecting individuals purporting to be able to obtain visas for them.

They agree on monies and travel documents which the victims hand over to the scammers only to find out later that they have been conned.
