Professor seeks support for Human Rights Commission candidacy

United States candidate for the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), Professor James L. Cavallaro, has held talks with CARICOM seeking support for his candidacy.
CARICOM foreign ministers met in Trinidad earlier this week under the chairmanship of Trinidad and Tobago’s Foreign Minister, Winston Dookeran.
A statement issued by the US Embassy said the Stanford Law School lecturer also met with key civil society stakeholders discussing several topical human rights issues including corruption and transparency, equal protection under the law and press freedom.
The IACHR elections will be held during the June 2013 General Assembly of the Organization of American States in Antigua, Guatemala.
