Sub-regional Coordinator for the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), Dr. Barbara Graham is warning Caribbean leaders against complacency in the wake of the global food crisis.
Dr. Graham says the region needs to make changes to combat the issue.
The FAO official also says Caribbean countries need to take steps to ensure that they become less dependent.
Pointing to the link between poverty and the threat of starvation, the FAO official says economies such as those in the Caribbean which depend heavily on food importation are especially vulnerable.
FAO statistics show that each year the region imports about 3 billion US dollars worth of agricultural produce.
