‘Justice for Trayvon’ protests in several US cities today

There were scores of demonstrations across several cities in the United States today, one week after Florida neighbourhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman was cleared of murdering unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin.
The protesters want federal charges brought against Zimmerman.
There were ‘Justice for Trayvon’ rallies outside federal court buildings in Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami and New York.
A jury of six women sided with Zimmerman’s defence that the February 2012 slaying was in self-defence.
In his first comments since the verdict, US President Barack Obama conceded that many black men have experienced racial profiling in the US.
Civil rights activist the Reverend Al Sharpton, who organised the protests, says he wants to see the controversial ‘Stand Your Ground’ self-defence laws repealed.
