Obama cancels Meeting with Putin

US President Barack Obama has canceled a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin after Russia decided to grant asylum to intelligence leaker Edward Snowden.

According to the BBC, Obama says he is disappointed with Russia's decision to offer Snowden asylum for a year.

The White House aide said this decision has deepened the pre-existing tension between Russia and America.

In a statement, the White House noted that there is not enough recent progress in the bilateral agenda with Russia to hold a US-Russia Summit.

In addition to the issue of granting asylum to Snowden, the White House cited a lack of progress on issues ranging from missile defence to human rights.
