Don't lump us together - says several CARICOM leaders to multi-lateral lending agencies
Several CARICOM leaders have asked the International Monetary Fund, the IMF, and other multi-lateral lending agencies not to lump the region with other nations and classified as middle income countries.
The request came at a conference sponsored by the IMF which ended in The Bahamas yesterday.
Prime Minister of The Bahamas Perry Christie says the region's peculiar circumstances were not well known to the wider international community.
St Lucia's Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony says sometimes CARICOM countries are judged by criteria that are of no immediate relevance to their circumstances.
Dr Anthony says one of the challenges facing regional governments is to explain their peculiar circumstance to international community.
