At least 30 people have been killed in Syria following a suicide truck bombing near the central city of Hama.
Syria’s state news agency Sana reports that the carnage unfolded after Syrian rebels drove a truck laden with over a tonne of explosives into a government checkpoint on a busy road.
It’s reported that the explosion may have set fire to a nearby petrol tanker and that this could have increased the damage and casualties.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has blamed the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front for the attack.
The human rights group claims the attack appears to have targeted government soldiers, but says most of those killed were civilians.
