The Human Rights Association in Guyana said there is need for a change in culture in the legal, security and religious sectors, in order to end violence against women.
According to the UN, at least one out of every three women around the world has been beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime.
Research has also shown that the abuser is usually someone known to the woman.
