Antigua's PM hints at general election

Published:Tuesday | November 5, 2013 | 8:10 AM

Antigua's Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer has hinted at a general election within the next four months.

The last general election was held in March 2009 and in recent times Prime Minister Spencer has been appealing to the population to ensure that his ruling United Progressive Party is returned to office to continue the work it started in 2004.

The main challenge to the ruling party will come from the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party that suffered its first electoral defeat in 2004 after nearly 30 years in power.

Last week the authorities allowed an extension of the voter registration period.
