As the region continues to feel the effects of the global financial crisis, the government in the Dominican Republic is reporting a drop in the number of tourists visiting the country.
Statistics from the Central Bank show that tourist arrivals began falling in the second half of the year, as the global economy began to weaken.
The bank reported that between July and October, total visitors fell by 5.6 percent.
The downward trend is said to have heightened in September and October, when visits were down 10 percent.
Bermuda and The Bahamas have also reported a decline in visitor arrivals.
