Gaming legislation coming for Bermuda
The One Bermuda Alliance (OBA) government yesterday announced that it has scrapped plans to hold a national referendum on gaming in Bermuda and will move ahead with gaming legislation instead.
Premier Craig Cannonier had pledged to hold a referendum by next February.
However, he now says the matter will now be decided by the House of Assembly.
He says announcement of a schedule of events, including a public information and consultation campaign on the plan for gaming, will be announced soon.
Many hoteliers say the introduction of casinos is vital to reviving Bermuda's flagging tourism industry.
