Jamaica beat Barbados

Jamaica recorded a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Barbados last night at the National Stadium in their opening Group ‘A’ match in the Digicel Caribbean Championship Football Finals.



Rudolph Austin scored in the 76th minute to level the scores after Riviere Williams had given Barbados the lead in the 44th minute.



Luton Shelton scored an 81st minute penalty to put the Reggae Boyz 2-1 ahead.



The Reggae Boyz will face Grenada in their second game tomorrow night at Jarrett Park in Montego Bay.



In the other Group ‘A’ game yesterday, Grenada scored an upset 2-1 victory over Trinidad and Tobago through a last-minute goal from midfielder Ricky Charles.



The Championship continues today with a Group ‘B’ double-header at Jarrett Park.



Reigning champions Haiti will face Antigua and Barbuda in the first game at 5 p.m., while Guadeloupe will meet Cuba at 7 p.m.



The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals on December 11, with the final set for December 14.



The Digicel Caribbean Championship winners will collect US$120,000 and the tournament’s top four finishers will advance to the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup in the United States in June.
