St Lucia opposition party calls emergency leadership meeting
(CMC):
The main opposition United Workers Party in St Lucia says it plans to hold an emergency meeting Sunday to consider changes to its leadership in Parliament.
The meeting follows the recent exchange of letters between Opposition Leader Stephenson King and the party’s leader, Allan Chastanet, who is not a Member of Parliament.
The letters, which were leaked to the media, point to disagreement over the direction the party.
Party sources say King has not been attending meetings called by the executive since his defeat for the leadership of the party and had been making unilateral statements considered harmful to the party’s interest.
Chastanet in a statement Friday down played reports of a major rift saying that it was unfortunate that the internal affairs of the party were being played out in public.
