Caribbean Airlines increases security following US travel advisory against the carrier

Published:Sunday | February 9, 2014 | 9:15 PM

Caribbean Airlines says it has increased security arrangements at its Guyana operations in response to what it says are unconfirmed reports of threats purportedly being made against the carrier.

In a statement, Caribbean Airlines said it is working closely with all authorities to ensure appropriate security protocols are followed for the safe, comfortable and punctual flight departures.

The carrier took the measure after the US Embassy in Guyana issued a travel advisory warning US citizens in Guyana to avoid travelling on Caribbean Airlines between February 10 and 12.

The Embassy says it has received unconfirmed threat information relating to Caribbean Airlines flights destined for the United States departing on Monday, February 10.

It says out of an abundance of caution, citizens should make alternate travel arrangements.

Caribbean Airlines has sought to assure that it has the situation under control.

The airline says all its flights are operating as scheduled.
