3.7-magnitude quake jolts western Trinidad and Tobago
Several areas in western Trinidad and Tobago were rattled by a magnitude 3.7 earthquake yesterday.
However, officials in the twin island republic say there have been no reports of damage or injuries.
The Seismic Unit at the University of the West Indies says the quake, which had a depth of 87 kilometre, was felt mostly in the Gulf of Paria.
It comes days after St Lucia’s Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony urged regional countries to take seriously recent predictions by scientists that the Caribbean could be hit by a major earthquake which could trigger a tsunami.
Several Caribbean countries, including St Lucia and Barbados, were jolted by a magnitude 6.4 earthquake last month.
